Cook with YIWA

Igbo’s are known for their variety of soups (Ofe) and other appetising dishes. There are many special recipes and unique ingredients that make an Igbo meal taste so delicious.

YIWA understands that as a woman, in our culture it is important to learn and know how to cook whether it be in your parents home or when you start a family.

As well as the cooking classes that YIWA will introduce we will post weekly recipes to teach anyone and everyone how to cook!

Abacha (African Salad)

How to cook Ingredients: 1 large onion 4 tablespoons of grounded crayfish 1 teaspoon of grounded Ehu seed (Calabash nutmeg) 1 cup of Ugba (depending on size of serving) 1 cup of Abacha (depending on size of serving) 2 tablespoons of powdered potash Pepper and salt to taste 1 large cooking spoon of red palm

Okro soup

How to cook Ingredients: 1 small onion 1/2 crayfish (grounded) 6 cups of finely chopped okro 4 cups of chopped ugu Cooked beef and goat meat (if you prefer you can use snail, prawns, fresh fish, tripe or cow foot) Maggi and salt (to taste) 1 cup of red palm oil 2 hot red peppers
